19/6/2017 Deborah Stokes and I completed the rail grey topcoating in the radiator compartment, Dave Rolfe refitted another part of the radiator shutter actuating mechanism, while Wes Needle carried on in no 1 cab, refitting panelling to the driver's desk, though not without some effort as the panels were warped from storage and previous rushed fitting. After this work party my car developed an irritatingly-hard-to-trace water leak meaning I couldn't drive long distances and so I wasn't able to get back on site until...
27/8/2017 Today Dave, Deborah Stokes and I finished painting the electrical conduits in the radiator compartment orange, then we carried on scraping rust and deposits off the underside of the rad roof section, before hoovering all the loose out and undercoating. A new volunteer in the shape of my better half Mae had said she'd like to see what it is we do, so she came with me today and helped with the scraping and painting. Both radiator shutter mechanism actuating cylinders are now fitted, and Dave told me Wes had come yesterday, and he and Dave re-assembled one side of the radiator actuating mechanism where it goes under the flooring, and hooked it up to the compressor to prove the cylinder and EP valves work, which they did, and the shutters on that side opened and closed when the flaps on the EP valves were pressed. They also operate with the manual handle. Dave said he has the parts for the other side ready to fit. A gallery of images from the ongoing internal restoration of 50030 is below.
