Mark Burrows and his Robert plus myself were on site today. Mark and Robert carried on where my partner Mae had got to on the no.1 end cabsides of 50030, removing rusty paint bubbles, grinding and sanding smooth where possible, then adding filler, sanding again and priming, then painting with grey undercoat. When purchased in 2002, both 50029 and 50030 were in rather shabby NSE livery after ten years' open storage and we agreed with Peak Rail that we would repaint them both as a priority so they didn't become eyesores. Ten years further on and the paint job has obviously worn down with being out in the open and whilst the weather is so fine it seemed best to fix the worst spots on the cabsides.
I top-coated the second side of five of the six rad resistor backplates, and as it was very warm and sunny, by the end of the afternoon they had almost completely dried. The sixth one had not been undercoated on one side, so I cleaned it off and undercoated it. Next work party we can start to refit them.
